Introducing the Sisters or Our Lady of Kilimanjaro

The Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Kilimanjaro is a Diocesan rite founded in 1931. It is situated at the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in Rombo District, 75 kilometers from Moshi town in Tanzania.

Our founder, Bishop Gorgarty C.S.Sp., was inspired to spread the Good News to the people of Africa, particularly the people of Kilimanjaro. He felt that he needed great support to make sure that the Gospel is spread rapidly.

Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he decided to start a Congregation; the main mission being salvation and total liberation of humans freeing them: spiritually, intellectually, and physically. Thus, he focused on Evangelization, Education and Health Services.

The Congregation was placed under the patroness of Our Mother Virgin Mary. Therefore, we honor Her in a special way and we are inspired to follow Her footsteps in carrying out the work of salvation.
